The word "Laguiole", pronounced "la-yoll", is a generic term, such knives are produced by a number of unrelated companies in southern France.

Originating from folding pocket knives, the same design features are now used on many more knife related implements, including our steak knives.

Intricate decoration is a characteristic feature of Laguiole knives.
The bee symbol is still present where there would have been a spring catch on the folding knife.
